Unit Online

In today's digital age, any business which is not investing in its online presence is missing a trick.

No longer can companies get away with having a website that offers no more than their phone number or physical address. For clients and potential clients it is more often than not the first port of call to find out information about you, and the means by which they choose to engage with you.

In the media world, daily news is something people increasingly get online. While Ulster Business is a successful print publication, the team here were conscious of the need to share stories, provide immediate analysis, and interact with readers between editions as news is breaking.

To that end Greer Publications engaged Chris Black and his team at Unit Online to come up with a solution that would give Ulster Business staff easy access to and greater control over its website with an in-house content management system.

In the three months since the project was completed the control the new system affords has let us to be more proactive and reactive with our content, allowed us to do more with social media, and had a hugely positive impact on traffic to the site.

"Chris and his team were easy to work with and came up with a website that we feel complements the magazine perfectly, both from an editorial and commercial point of view," said Ulster Business publisher James Greer.

"The system on which ulsterbusiness.com is built is easy to use, required minimal training for staff, and also leaves us several options to develop the site further in future."

Chris, whose background is in graphic design and marketing, says the key to successful web development or e-commerce projects is in listening to what the clients' want to achieve through it.

"We are innovative in our approach, not just with the technology we have at our disposal but in how we work with clients. We're not just another web development company. Every build we do is bespoke, using the same systems but tailor made to each brand and the needs of their business," he said.

Chris cites another of Unit Online's strengths as it's willingness to consider projects in all budget ranges, providing fast turnaround to clients whether they are start-ups or large exporting companies.

Now more than ever, he says it is important to protect the perception of your brand, keep up with your industry and have the ability to respond to what people say about you.

"There is a reason why the best websites or e-commerce systems work, it's not just about design. We feed client input into every project, but we also do things a certain way because we know from experience what works."
