IoD Director of the Year Awards Winners 2

Celebrating at the Merchant Hotel are Karen Dundee from Galgorm Manor Hotel, Karen Brady from mxb, David Dobbin from United Dairy Farmers, John McMullan from Bryson Charitable Group, David Robinson from Robinson Services Limited and Yvonne Mallon from B/E Aerospace.

An unprecedented four of the seven categories in the IoD NI Director of the Year Awards for 2012-13 have been won by women.

At a ceremony at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast, Karen Dundee from Galgorm Manor Hotel was named SME Director of the Year, while Karen Brady from marketing services agency, mxb, picked up the award for Young Director of the Year.

Helen Kirkpatrick from UTV Media plc received the accolade for Non-Executive Director of the Year and Yvonne Mallon from B/E Aerospace was recognised as Leader of the Year in Corporate Responsibility.

IoD NI Chairman Mervyn McCall said of the recipients: "Today's winners show that female leaders do not need women-only awards or categories.

"When women put themselves forward or are nominated for recognition, then they are proving to be worthy winners and fully capable of competing on a level playing field."

John McMullan from Bryson Charitable Group won Third Sector Director of the Year,
David Dobbin from United Dairy Farmers picked up the award for Large Company Director of the Year, and Family Business Director of the Year went to David Robinson from Robinson Services Limited.

The IoD awards celebrate leadership in all organisations whether they are in the private, public or third sectors.

Seven categories were contested at the awards, which are sponsored by Abbey Bond Lovis, the local insurance brokers and risk management advisors.

Abbey Bond Lovis Managing Director Maurice Boyd congratulated the winners, whom the judging panel deemed to have made a valuable contribution to the success of their organisations.

"The quality of entrants is testament to the outstanding directors in Northern Ireland who have demonstrated strategic planning, sound financial management and a contribution to the growth of their organisations," he said.

Guests at the awards were inspired by a presentation by Ulster Rugby coach Mark Anscombe, who himself is proving to be an exceptional leader of the Ulster team.

The Director of the Year Awards is part of a UK-wide programme that rewards excellence, showcases leadership and sets the standard for directors.

The Northern Ireland winners will be entered into the national awards held in late 2013. They will also be nominated for the IoD Lunn's Award of Excellence which will be presented at the IoD Annual Dinner in Belfast on February 7, 2013 where the guest speaker is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
