As well as the firm's Belfast office being listed as the most active legal adviser in Northern Ireland in 2012, A&L Goodbody also secured top position as the leading legal adviser in the Republic of Ireland, both in terms of volume of deals and value.
The Experian report shows that the total number of deals in Northern Ireland increased by more than one third (36.7 per cent) to 52 in 2012 compared to 2011 - the highest number of deals since 2008. The volume of Northern Ireland deals more than doubled in 2012 meanwhile, from £384m in 2011 to £1.1bn.
A&L Goodbody Corporate Partner Peter Stafford said: "Last year we acted on a number of major transactions, including the acquisition of Crossgar Foodservice by Pallas Foods; AMP in connection with the acquisition of the operational wind farm portfolio of Viridian; the acquisition of Simply Zesty by UTV; and the acquisition by Lakesmere of the business and assets of McMullen Architectural Systems Limited from its administrator."
Stafford also said he is optimistic about the level of activity in the local market going forward.
"Despite what is still a very challenging market for Northern Ireland, we do see tentative signs of the corporate market picking up pace and this is very clearly demonstrated in the surge of deals in the past year," he said.
"I am optimistic that this trend will continue in 2013 and look forward to A&L Goodbody continuing to advise on significant deals, playing our part in the journey to economic recovery in Northern Ireland."
