NSPCC Fine Wine

James Nicholson and Dearbhla McGrath

Northern Ireland wine buffs are invited to take part in Fine Wine Challenge, and turn top palates into top prizes, to raise vital funds for the NSPCC.

The NSPCC and James Nicholson Wine Merchant are delighted to announce the return of the annual interactive wine-tasting quiz, which is taking place at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast on 15 November. Enjoy a champagne reception on arrival, followed by a light supper, prepared by the Merchant Hotel's renowned chefs, which will be accompanied by an excellent array of unusual and exclusive wines handpicked by fine wine specialist and event sponsor, James Nicholson Wine Merchant.

If you think you know your Sancerre from your Chablis, your Malbec from your Merlot and are up for a challenge, this event is the perfect way to develop your appreciation of fine wines, whilst entertaining your most valued clients and colleagues. Teams will battle it out to win the coveted Fine Wine Challenge Trophy. However, the Belfast Fine Wine Challenge is a quiz with a twist: the NSPCC encourages participants to bend the rules in their pursuit of the Fine Wine Challenge trophy, with professional wine connoisseurs providing hints and tips in exchange for charitable donations. Swindle your way to the top and convince your peers of your wine buffery, all with a clear conscience.

Dearbhla McGrath, NSPCC fundraiser, said "The Fine Wine Challenge is the only competition of its kind to take place here. It's a fresh way for local businesses to have a lot of fun, sample some top quality wines, and to help the NSPCC raise vital funds to help bring an end to child cruelty. Last year's event was a phenomenal success for us and it's great to announce the third year of the competition. We wish the best of luck to all competing for the NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge trophy!"

All proceeds raised from the Fine Wine Challenge will help to raise funds for the NSPCC's Changing Childhoods Appeal. The appeal aims to raise £1 million to support ground-breaking services to help some of the most vulnerable children and families in the greater Belfast area. This invaluable work could simply not exist without your support.

The NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge takes place on 15 November at the Merchant Hotel, 16 Skipper Street, Belfast from 7.00pm. Tables of 10 are priced at £700 each. Tables are limited and booking early is advised. For more information about this event or to purchase tickets, please contact Dearbhla McGrath on 028 9035 1135 or email northernirelandappeals@nspcc.org.uk.
