SDC has a number of high profile clients including Eddie Stobart and Asda.

Toomebridge based manufacturing company SDC Trailers is planning to create 40 new jobs after announcing it has won a new order worth £1.25m from a Saudi Arabia based company.

The new order from the Rezayat Group is for 60 platform trailers, which will be manufactured and exported to Saudi Arabia by the end of this year.

The additional jobs are to be based in the Toomebridge plant, and will be spread across the engineering, operative and management departments, the company said.

SDC, which employs more than 500 people across three sites has seen a period of rapid growth in the past 18 months, and anticipates a number of larger contract announcements in the coming months.

Chief Executive Mark Cuskeran said: "These are exciting times at SDC, where we are seeing the return on all of our hard work over the past few years. By making our manufacturing practises more efficient, and lowering our costs across our three plants, we have massively boosted our competitiveness, and we are seeing the benefits of that now. This large export contract is our first in the Middle East, and we anticipate more export driven business growth in the coming year.

"We're delighted to announce further job creation to boost the local economy, and we expect to be making more similar contract announcements in the coming months."

Established in Toomebridge in 1978, SDC has grown into one of the leading trailer manufacturers in Europe. The business expanded with the acquisition of Neville Charrold in Nottinghamshire in 1994 and the acquisition by Retlan Manufacturing in 1998.
