A Lisburn manufacturing company has created 50 new jobs as part of a £3.2m investment.

Leckey, which makes supportive equipment for children with special needs, has plans to grow its product base and focus on its core customers, as well as driving growth in export markets.

The roles, 18 of which have already been filled, are spread right across the business in manufacturing, sales, design, engineering and marketing and in total will contribute over £1m a year in salaries.

CEO James Leckey said the investment marks an exciting time for the company.

“This investment is an exciting milestone in the strategic growth of our business which will focus on building our core sales and introducing a new range of products,” he said. “Innovation has been central to our success to date and working with Invest NI we are positioning ourselves to move with key trends and developments driving growth in our target markets.

“Growing our workforce will ensure we have the resources that we need to strengthen our brand and continue to deliver excellent customer service by working collaboratively with parents and therapists.”

Invest Northern Ireland has offered the company £715,366 towards its growth plans, which includes a research and development grant of £315,366 part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the EU Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme 2014–2020.

First Minister Arlene Foster and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness announced the new jobs at the company’s plant in Lisburn.

“These 50 new jobs being created at Leckey is positive news for the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area and is another welcome boost for Northern Ireland’s manufacturing industry,” the First Minister said.

The Deputy First Minister said it was an important day for the company.

“Support for this expansion demonstrates the Executive’s commitment to help indigenous manufacturers strengthen their competitive position in export markets.

“Leckey products are life enhancing and improving and will assist many people and families to live their daily lives in a way which prior to having access to Leckey products simply wouldn't have been possible.”
