Belfast City Council is giving an insight into their social media activity at a seminar later this month organised by The Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Ranked as one of the top 5 local authorities in the UK for its use of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, Caroline Dixon, External Communications Manager of Belfast City Council will explain how the council overcame initial obstacles and gained credibility with both internal and external audiences racking up almost 20,000 social media fans on Facebook and Twitter.

The seminar will outline case studies where the council have also used social media channels to keep ratepayers informed as part of its joint emergency response plan during the widespread water disruption of winter 2010 and engaging citizens in local elections.
