P&O Ferries has awarded local ship outfitters and refurbishment specialists Blu Marine a £500,000 fit-out contract for its P&O Express, the fast craft that operates between Larne and Troon.

The full refurbishment of the ship, which includes a new Club Lounge, is well under way and will be complete for the launch of the service on March 27.

P&O said the all new Club Lounge will have capacity for up to 90 passengers and has been designed particularly with business travellers in mind – with passengers able to enjoy free newspapers and magazines, as well as refreshments including soft drinks, teas, coffees, wine and snacks.

There will be sockets for passengers to use for their laptops, tablets and mobile phones, a waiter service with exclusive menu and the newly installed Club Bar with a bespoke drinks menu.

Keith Millar, Head of Operations for P&O Ferries, Irish Sea said: "This refurbishment and installation of the new Club Lounge is a significant investment in our Express service and a very exciting development for P&O Ferries and for the passengers. It will offer style, comfort, peace and quiet and above all a first class on board experience."

Martin Lees, Project Manager, Blu Marine added: "We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious contract by P&O Ferries to upgrade the entire Express ship both inside and out. We are bringing our unrivalled experience and expertise to the job to ensure we complete the makeover to the highest quality and specifications set by P&O Ferries."
