A local technology company has officially launched its mobile gaming tournament platform in the UK, offering gamers the chance to compete for real world prizes.

GoPrezzo, which has offices in both New York and Belfast, gives players the chance to win prizes from brands such as Birchbox, Paul Frank and Simple things by posting their casual gaming scores to the online tournament of their choice.

Formed by CEO Aaron Taylor and CTO Martin Scott, the company has developed a score normalising algorithm that means gamers can compete to win, regardless of the game they are playing or the platform they are playing it on.

Following on from its successful launch in the US late last year, GoPrezzo is hoping to gain further traction in the UK market. The mobile gaming market bucked the economic trend in 2012, entering a growth period for the first time in four years, thanks to the increasing prevalence of mobile and tablet devices.

"We're delighted to be bringing this opportunity to the UK gaming market and based on our prelaunch registration numbers we're expecting a very successful launch and development of the market for GoPrezzo and our brand partners," said Taylor.

Games offering GoPrezzo tournaments include Boom Bugs, Rope Rescue and Legend of Fat Ninja, with more set to go live throughout July and August.

To celebrate the UK launch, GoPrezzo is running a series of giveaways and special tournaments. Players can sign up by visiting
