Poultry processor Moy Park has revealed it is currently processing 5m chickens a week across its 14 processing sites, a record in the firm’s history.
Northern Ireland’s biggest company said it has ramped up production by 60% over the last six years from 3.1m birds a week in 2009 at its facilities across the UK, Ireland, Holland and France.
It said the increased throughput was a response to growing demand for its chicken products.
“This is a significant milestone for Moy Park,” according to Moy Park’s UK and Ireland Director, Alan Gibson. “The growth has been driven by demand from our customers and consumers who recognise Moy Park as a top quality, innovative and service-orientated business.”
The birds are sourced from the 800 farmers it works with across Northern Ireland and England and it has plans to increase output further with an expansion programme to help farmers build 250 new poultry houses in Northern Ireland.
“Our broiler expansion programme has been hugely successful adding to our farming estate, which is the most modern in the UK. This coupled with our continued investment in our processing facilities, positions us positively for future growth.”
“Reaching 5 million birds per week is a huge achievement and I want to thank all those involved in the planning, building and implementation of Moy Park’s fresh poultry supply chain.”
