Mount charles to hire 200 new staff

One of the biggest support services providers on the island of Ireland said it will take on 212 new staff this year as its expansion continues apace.

Mount Charles said the extra staff will be needed to help it service the £7.3m worth of new contracts it has won in the last year.

It supplies foodservice, cleaning, security and vending services to organisations throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic and recently won a three-year cleaning contract with a government department.

The company is one of Northern Ireland’s biggest employers with a headcount of around 1,850 and has taken on 130 people in the last 12 months.

Turnover at the firm has grown by £2.6m year-on-year in 2015 to £28.1m, helped by new business from the likes of Ladbrokes, Translink, South Eastern Regional College, the Western Health and Social Care Trust, Glanbia and Pramerica.

Cathal Geoghegan, Managing Director of the Mount Charles Group, said the impressive growth will continue in the coming years with a focus on building the business across the border.

“The strategy now is to really push for growth in the Republic of Ireland, and to keep building our business by adding to our services with dynamic and cost effective solutions,” he said.

And he was quick to point out how ubiquitous Mount Charles is already.

“Our offering is already much wider than people may realise; it’s not all contract catering and cleaning. You need manned guarding? We can do that. A remote switchboard? That’s no problem. An outside event that requires a bar? We can do that too.

“We serve thousands of people in workplaces, schools, healthcare facilities and universities every day; so the chances are you might come into contact with Mount Charles more often than you think,” added Mr Geoghegan.
